Questions
Can I say whether a result was useful?
Yes. Under a result, Yes or No records one answer, and a comment is optional. Suggest an improvement, in the home menu, stores a note on the account and does not email you back. About 30 days after the first result, an email can ask whether any money was claimed or a payment changed. The link records an amount if you enter one. BonCompteur does not contact the supplier about it.
Who checks unusual results?
Checked by people with insurance, legal and finance backgrounds. A low-confidence reading, a very large estimated refund or leak bill, an unexplained-consumption figure, or wording that touches insurance, a dispute, or legal or tax matters can be held until that desk has checked it. The desk does not message you. What you then see stays factual. It is not insurance, legal, tax or dispute advice, and it does not name the reviewers.
Is this energy advice?
No. The Utility MOT is a second pair of eyes on bills, meters, the current supplier's published tariffs, leak flags and maintenance dates. BonCompteur compares figures you provide and prepares fixed emails you can approve. It does not tell you to change supplier or to pick an offer.
What is the Utility MOT?
An annual check of a home's electricity, gas and water bills, meters, current-supplier tariffs, leaks and maintenance, for busy owners and non-residents whose staff or property managers do not watch these closely. Gas covers a GRDF Gazpar meter and a propane tank. It uses documents you add. It is not a visit to the house. Monthly tracking is the add-on on the same subscription: new bills, readings, leak flags and maintenance dates through the year. This version has no separate monthly charge.
Does a Tarif Bleu bill mean I should change offer?
No. The free check says “Here are the options your supplier offers” and lists Zen Fixe, Heures Creuses and Tempo by the middle annual estimate. An illustrative case study is kept apart from that list. It shows about €380 a year less on Zen Fixe than on Tarif Bleu for a 5,000 kWh example in the catalogue. That example is not your home.
Does the Tempo line mean I should move to Tempo?
The priced rows are ordered by the middle annual estimate. The offer already on the bill is marked. The check does not suggest a choice. The off-peak share comes from a Linky or bill split, from two questions (water heater on off-peak, and an EV or pool pump at night), or from a figure you type. It is not a fixed 60%. Tempo uses the published season: 22 red days, only from 1 November to 31 March and not on Sunday, with the colour announced around 16:00. A winter-heavy home, with electric heating and winter occupancy, is warned that more of its kWh can land on those red days. A home with a pool pump, a pool heater or air conditioning places those kWh outside the red-day window, so the red share is lower than a flat mix. Where the home profile is a second home, the page also records a published note that Tempo may suit summer-only use. That sentence is a calendar fact. It is not a suggestion to change offer.
What is the heures creuses hours note?
For a bill on Heures Creuses, the check records a published change from 1 November 2025: at least 5 night hours plus 2 afternoon hours (11:00-17:00), across about 11 million households. The page does not have this contract's hours. The note is in config/connexion-notes.json, last checked 15 October 2026.
What is the subscribed power check?
When the bill prints a kVA, the page compares it with a sketch from the home profile: base load, heating, and equipment that is not marked on off-peak. It lists the standing charges in the supplier file for levels below the bill. Those figures are file figures. The page does not name a kVA to move to. If the bill has no kVA, the check is not run.
Does the supplier check tell me which tariff to pick?
No. Get more from your current supplier lists that supplier's published tariffs in the order of the config file and shows an estimated annual cost for each. A request is written only after you name one tariff. The letter asks the supplier to confirm the price and the start date.
Does the bill-lines letter tell me to complain?
No. Bill lines names each figure on the latest usable bill. The letter, in French and in English, asks the supplier to explain the lines you tick. It does not ask for a change of offer and it does not say a sum is owed. Nothing is sent until you approve it. Linky and Gazpar consent stays off until the meter flag is on, and this version does not call Enedis or GRDF. Leak-sensor cards are sponsored slots with no partner connected.
Does a water flag mean the leak-relief cap applies?
No. The jump flag compares the readings you entered with the median of earlier periods on this page. A winter is compared with the earlier winters, so a summer does not hide a high winter. A single day of 10.8 m³ or more is listed on its own and is left out of that median. A separate warning runs only when the carnet spans about three years and the latest main-meter volume is above twice the average of those earlier periods. If the carnet is shorter, BonCompteur does not fill in an average for a comparable home. The checklist describes article L. 2224-12-4, III bis: a plumber's attestation within one month, a cap at twice the average, and exclusions for household appliances, heating equipment and sanitary fittings. It also names the pool auto-filler, with the irrigation line and the pool house, as places on an anonymised repair note. That note is not this home. A second letter asks the service to check the meter when you report that there is no leak. The Médiation de l'eau site is mediation-eau.fr. BonCompteur does not file that request, and the letters do not say the article applies.
What is What you might get back?
An estimate on the free check and the dashboard. The water line is the consumption charge minus the share that matches twice the three-year average volume, and only where a pipe leak after the meter was repaired with a plumber's certificate within one month. Appliances, heating equipment and sanitary fittings are outside that article. The mensualité line is scheduled debits minus the projected annual cost from meter indexes, shown as a range. The tariff line reprices the usage on file on each same-supplier option and shows the difference, in the same order as the check. The label is “Estimate only, not a guarantee or advice”. Illustrations — a published bill cut from €10,341 to €105, a sample €460.00 refund, and about €380 a year in the catalogue — are not this home.
What is the estimated versus real reading flag?
It appears when the last real reading on file — a photo, a customer index, or a bill marked actual, customer or smart — is 12 months or more before today, or when the documents go back that far with no real reading at all. A short file of estimated bills does not raise it. The 12-month screen is BonCompteur's own check, not a statutory deadline.
What is the note about people presenting themselves as Enedis agents?
A published report describes people presenting themselves as Enedis agents. The page does not confirm a visit, an identity, or that a person at the door works for Enedis. The source is in config/connexion-notes.json. The note is a France fact and is not applied on a GB account.
Where is the official energy comparator?
The Médiateur national de l'énergie comparator is at comparateur.energie-info.fr. The tariff check links to it. BonCompteur does not run it and does not suggest a change of offer.
Does a maintenance reminder tell me the equipment has failed?
No. Salt, service, descaling and anode dates follow config/maintenance.json and the last date you enter. Descaling uses the 2-to-3-year range named by the ministry infographic on water-heater use. A possible limescale sign is a rise in the water heater’s own kWh log against its earlier median. Qualitel describes scale as making water harder to heat. The flag does not show that scale is present.
Does advanced monitoring replace the Linky split?
On Premium Home, a CSV of per-device or per-circuit energy is summed as measured kilowatt-hours. Free check and Utility MOT keep the questionnaire share of the Linky or bill total. Schneider’s Wiser Home guide documents a CSV export for Schneider Charge history and does not publish PowerTag column names, so the importer reads the columns in config/monitors.json. No Wiser login is connected.
Does the appliance split tell me what to buy?
No. It shares the annualised meter total using catalogue figures from your questionnaire. Efficient swaps compare running cost at the same loads or hours. A sponsored slot is labelled and is not a product suggestion.
Why is the supplier email in French?
So EDF or another French supplier can read it. You review an English explanation before anything is sent.
Are the sample prices the tarif réglementé?
No. The prices printed on the sample PDFs are synthetic. The Tarif Bleu offer list uses config/supplier-offers.json, which has a last-updated date. Update that file when the figures change. It is not a live CRE download, and it is not a suggestion to change offer.
Does Lower my mensualité now tell me to reduce the payment?
No. It calculates a figure from the meter indexes and the prices on your latest bill. If that figure is below the payment on file, the page prepares a phone call: French lines to read aloud, with English beside them, and a one-page French sheet for the person on the call. Check Espace Client or the EDF & Moi app first. When EDF proposes a new amount, you can accept it, adjust it within about 10%, or refuse it. Under mensualisation dynamique you have 40 days to change or refuse, and the amount stays between the previous mensualité and the proposed one. Those screens are in French; the page lists the French labels with English beside them. If no proposal is showing, the English line is +33 9 69 36 63 83 and simpleenergywithedf@edf.fr, and the hours vary from one EDF page to another. Otherwise call 3404, Monday to Saturday, 8h–20h, and read the script, or book Être rappelé on the EDF contact page. A request you start yourself, for the figure on this page, is still that phone call. After the call, a French confirmation records the amount the agent stated, for sending by lettre recommandée avec accusé de réception (AR) to EDF Service Clients, TSA 21941, 62978 ARRAS CEDEX 9. Log the call date, the agent's name, and that amount, then check the next debit from the bank against it. BonCompteur does not place the call, send the email, post the letter, or see the bank. The channels and source URLs are in config/edf-routes.json, last checked 15 October 2026. An email draft remains available for a supplier that accepts one. A worked example moves an EDF mensualité from €665.00 to €550.00. That example is not your home. The request is included with the Utility MOT and Premium Home.
What is the expected consumption benchmark?
A range of annual electricity kWh and water m³ from a short home profile and published French averages. The numbers and the citations sit in config/expected-consumption.json, including ADEME Panel Elecdom, CEREN heating intensities, an ADEME heat-pump measurement, and the SISPEA water mean. Monthly shape, driver months and the extra allowances for a tumble dryer, a pool heater and an irrigation pump sit in config/seasonality.json. The free check compares the seasonal projection — not 365 divided by the days on the bill — with that range and marks above expected or below expected. A short bill or a low-use part of the year widens the range and says so. Local temperatures for the bill dates come from the Open-Meteo archive for the commune on the profile, and guest stays, rentals, family visits and empty periods on the occupancy calendar are included in the range. A cold winter or a hot month is named in a sentence on the result. The mensualité call can read the same range out. It is an estimate, not advice.
What is the unexplained consumption check?
It compares electricity and water with a period you mark as empty, a night index from the Linky, a sub-meter row, or an all-off test you run on this installation. When a figure sits above the comparison, the page lists possible causes together: a leak, a meter that is not measuring this installation alone, a shared or communal box or a pipe on other land, and an unauthorised connection. It does not name a person or pick a cause. Next routes are a meter-off test on this installation, Enedis for a meter or communal-box check, the water service for a pipe that crosses other land, and the police or the gendarmerie only if you suspect a crime. The page does not describe entering another property or speaking to a neighbour. The wording is a factual observation, not an allegation and not advice. The floor and the Enedis number are in config/unexplained.json, last checked 15 October 2026.
What is a mensualité?
A fixed payment collected most months. It is not the cost of that month's electricity. The facture de régularisation compares usage with those payments.
Will you log in to my supplier or my bank?
No. You upload a bill or forward one to your BonCompteur address. There is no portal login and no bank link.
Can I gift a Utility MOT to a parent in France?
Yes. Gift a Utility MOT is a page for an adult child. You pay for the Utility MOT or Premium Home, add an optional message, and choose a start date. Your parent receives a short invite and accepts the plan on their own French home. Alerts and monthly reports are also sent to you only if they tick a consent box. That box starts empty, and they can withdraw consent in Settings. You do not approve their emails to the supplier, and your login does not open their home. A UK account is not the gifted home.
What if I am in a dispute?
The Médiateur national de l'énergie is a public route you can use yourself. BonCompteur does not file a case for you.
Why 42 days for a closing bill?
That wait is BonCompteur's own reminder before it drafts a facture de clôture request. It is not a statutory deadline.
